| Chris Borin (strange but true!) |
Chris began playing trumpet at the age of 13 in order to escape the small rural school in whose district his family lived. He learned his basic trumpet skills from his father, a band director, tenor sax player, and avid Dexter Gordon fan. Although receiving a late start on his trumpet playing, Chris caught up quickly and was soon working professionally around his hometown of Ardmore, Oklahoma. Chris was also honored as a three year All-State musician his senior year.
After graduating high school, Chris joined the Army Bands working not only as a trumpet player, but also as a vocalist, keyboardist, and sound technician with the 62nd Army Band based in Ft. Bliss, El Paso serving the Southern United States, then transferring to the 8th Army Band in Seoul, Korea serving the entire Korean peninsula. After a four year tour, Chris left the military and began school at UNT in 1999.
During his pursuit of a Jazz Performance degree from UNT, Chris performed and recorded with the 2 O'Clock Lab Band, 3 O'Clock Lab Band, UNT Zebras, and the UNT Latin Jazz Ensemble. Chris also took advantage of opportunities to play and teach in South Korea; the Czech Republic; Mexico; Canada; and South America. He also spent a year and a half working for Carnival Cruise lines as a lead and solo trumpet player, and music director performing with artists such as Denny Brunk; Roger Homefield; Victor Zuniga; and Tia Thompson. Since receiving his bachelor's degree in 2005, Chris has been performing with the Dallas based band Inside Out, The Pathway of Life church of Mesquite, as well as maintaining a regular teaching schedule at the Music Academy of Corinth, and freelancing live and studio gigs in the DFW area.
Chris has always maintained a personal studio for small demo and screen projects, but will be upgrading his studio to compete on a more professional level. More to come!
